Globs of brown, wet snow and rain splashed my pants as I crossed the road. The car coming down the street didn’t mean for it to happen. Thank God I wore brown pants to match the mushy slush. It’s that time of year in Central New York.
Inside a cozy woman-owned café and bookstore, I joined my friends to write at our weekly writing club. Armed with a favorite framed photo, the basis of today’s writing assignment, I joyfully put it on the long wooden table.
The 2019 framed gem shows my husband, two sons, and me in an embrace on the white sands of Sanibel Island, Florida, with a dimming blue sky, ripples of golden yellow and orange wisps of clouds, and tranquil sea foam green water.
For one moment, I wasn’t amid brown slush and grey skies. Instead, I was transported to this magical place, where I stood barefoot in warm, white sand speckled with pastel pink and orange shells with the loves of my life, renewing my wedding vows on the 30th Anniversary of our marriage.
So the next time the weather, news, or your day is grey, remember, you can pick up a favorite portrait, sink back into the moment it was taken, and turn the day into a colorful palette of memories and love.

I loved this post, Tracy. Thank you for sharing what you wrote and for your encouragement.
Just read this dear daughter. When I fianally put my head to eternal rest, you will have hundreds of my journals to read. As you know I've kept a journal most of my life, and I'm in my 80's! Any time I pick up a journal of 'days of yore', those kind of memories as you write come back vividly. I'm glad that you can capture your thoughts the way that you do also! love, mom
